Attendance

Virtual schools in the State of Tennessee are required to “meet the equivalent of 180 days of instruction and 6.5 hours per day per academic year pursuant to T.C.A. § 49-6-3004,” and we are required to “monitor participation and progress to ensure students meet participation requirements, and make progress toward successful completion of courses” (Rules of the State Board of Education, Rule 0520-01-03, -03, Minimum Requirements for the Approval of Public Schools, page 8). Our guidelines for a successful student include attending to daily work in a systematic manner. The student dedicates the time needed to successfully master the content in the course. “Target Completion” percentages are calculated every school day. Students are required daily to meet the “target completion” rates or they will be considered to be absent for all or part of the school day. When an “absence” occurs, the student must complete the missing work within the current week (Monday through Saturday). If an absence extends beyond one week, a doctor’s excuse must be submitted. As per the Bradley County Schools Truancy Plan students missing the equivalent of six (6) or more school days will be referred to Bradley County Campus Court.  Students may work ahead to plan for absences.  An absence to a mandatory event  (EOC/TCAP testing,  class zoom meeting,  state testing, ACT Bootcamp, etc.) or scheduled meeting (advisor, principal)  will be recorded on the day the absence occurs.  If a student fails to attend a monthly in-person event or equivalent, the absence will be recorded on the last school day of the month.
